DNC security to affect I-93 from Canton to Woburn
The Democratic National Convention brings the need for security at a high-profile event into conflict with ordinary people's needs to get to get to work or home. Do current plans balance those two sets of needs well?

If John Kerry is so concerned about the working man him and his other Democratic mates should do something to easy the pain of the Mass workers, instead of closing down the whole city for a week... great way to get voters....

After a decade of commuting from Woburn to Boston, we are in a better commuter position than before 2004. Yet, seeing the traffic disasters caused by rain, morning sun, and disabled vehicles, the DNC Convention traffic plans will bring nothing but backups, lost work hours, anger, and the nightmare of commutes. This action (even as part of a security plan) adds some value to the feeling that the Democratic party leadership is not always concerned about the average (mostly, middle-class) voter. We are just part of the masses who have to grin and bear the policy makers who seem just interested in a few. In the end, we will be unhappy about the commute and this will pass, then we will vote. (Maybe a voter or two will remember the Traffic plans of DNC convention and write in their thoughts at the voting booth)

I think we have the making of a total nightmare in the works. It is too bad that our local politicians can't get beyond patting themselves on the back long enough to really listen to what people say. This convention should never have been allowed here. It is a total disservice to the Boston area residents and those who have to work here. Mayor Menino has turned a deaf ear to the people for his own political gain. He will be remembered for that. This disaster will be his legacy.

Have they lost their minds ? Stop a whole city so rich folks can have a party ? This is insanity Nice to see our own Senator doesn't care how his constituents will be so massively inconvienced

I saw this coming a long time ago, so I put that week in as vacation. I don't want to be treated as some second class citizen, just because this convention came to Boston. What's worst, I bet the local businesses and the taxpayers in general, will be paying for this one well after when the convention hits the road. The mayor has been touting this as a good thing for Boston, I think maybe he's been sniffing to many fumes down at the big dig.

What plans!? It is a joke. All they are doing is closing down everything! The disruptions and inconvenience for the average person, not only in Boston, but now in the surrounding areas, is not worth the benefit; If there is any benefit at all! I would rather it wasn't here at all, but the new convention center would be a far better venue for the DNC.

No the plan is just plain asinine. Who's brilliant idea is it to shut down the city for this convention. That is exactly what will happen. I know I don't plan on going to work along with everone else I know. How exactly is this going to balance out the revenue generated from hosting this when no one goes to work. When you look at the poll that shows 90% opposed to this, why is it still being forced on us. Who made these decisions against the wishes of the people who live here. Move it to the convention center you morons!
Matt
Oh yah, and what are they going to do if there is a Emergency and someone dies because the EMS cant get through traffic?

The costs and hassles of the DNC are simply not worth it. If the security needs are as high as federal and state officials say they are, then this should have been sited in another city or even in a less urban location where the logistics are more manageable. The convention only benefits a few businesses and is primarily is an opportunity for local pols to bask in the glory of the national spotlight. What an enormous waste!

This has gotten way out of control. They should close the the local perimter roads immediately around the Fleet Center such as Causeway and N. Washington and that is it, no more. Closing the Interstate is absolutely ridiculous. The entire city is being held hostage by the convention and the threat of terrorism. Why didn't we all hide in our basements with hard hats in case the Russians bombed us for 50 years? Terrorism wins when we live in fear. Be prudent and responsible, not rediculous.
