DNC security to affect I-93 from Canton to Woburn
The Democratic National Convention brings the need for security at a high-profile event into conflict with ordinary people's needs to get to get to work or home. Do current plans balance those two sets of needs well?

If one more person (like the very 1st person who responded to this board) says just take the week off, I'm going to scream. EVERY SINGLE PERSON who commutes into the city can't just take the whole week off. My office only allows 2 people per week to be out anyway and they are not making any exceptions for the DNC week (and we are right in the heart of it on North Washington St.). Also, if the whole city takes that week off then the increased revenue that the mayor has been hyping for that week will not be increased at all, more businesses will end up losing money because of decreased productivity.

When will people realize that the DNC is just not worth it? It will cost the city more money then they will make. People say this is a great way for the city to get recognition. Boston has the greatest sports teams, greatest universities, greatest hospitals and the greatest history, then any other city. Boston does not need a headache to be recognized. I truly hope the democrats lose votes because of this joke.

John Kerry really needs to consider the impact all of this will have on his election bid. This does not seem to be in line with security for the RNC nor other major political events. Security is a must, but need to balance that with impact to the area. This is not worth losing votes over. Reconsider the security plan or location for many of the events.

Mitt had it right, the DNC should have moved to the convention center! All this because my democratic party wanted to show up the GOP. Decision making and public interests were not served here Mr. Kerry !

Why isit that boston has to overreact to everything? There are 8 million in NYC, will their lives be disrupted and inconvienced, seemingly not. It seems everything has to be done the wrong way in Boston, god forbid that one of our politicians do something for their constituents, instead of congratulating themselves for this impending disaster. This is going to go down like other great Boston disaters: Dukakis in '88, Buckner in '86, Busing in '74, and leave us with another black mark on the citys reputation. Once again New Yorkers will be laughing at us. Hopefully this will be the impetus to get rid of Menino and his useless policies.

That is going to be a nightmare and isn't even worth having the convention in Boston. I thought it was supposed to bring money into the city and give us publicity...but what use is that if no one can even get into the city.

The purpose of the conventions used to be to select the party's candidate. That purpose doesn't apply hear. Todays conventions are made-for-tv. Couldn't the DNC just rent a hollywood soundstage and use file footage of Boston?

New York City doesn't shut down, do they beat us again?
Casey
Good job Kerry. At least you can walk to the convention from your wifes 8 Million dollar Brownstone on the Common. Some of us have to work, we aren't all married to the Queen of Ketchup. Absolutely obsurd that they shut down half the city for anyone. Typical Kerry "I'm for the people, now just remap your entire lives for a week while I hold a pep rally for myself with some of my ultra rich friends". I would take that week off, but I live in a little place called "Bills to pay land" where I have to do this thing called "work" to get money instead of just asking my wife. It's not about politics, it's about common courtesy and common sense. Something that anyone involved with this snafu has apparently LOST!

this plan of closing roads is totally crazy. BUT if 4 days of hell gets rid of Menino, it might just be worth it, because I can't take 4 more years of him. Everyone remember this past winter.........i.e. snow removal !!!!
