Cosby: Brutally honest or elitist snob?

Earlier this month Bill Cosby took a segment of the black community to task on issues from their grammar to complaints about police brutality. Some people said he was being brutally honest, while others said his remarks were a classist, elitist attack on the poor. What do you think?

Bill Cosby has it the nail on the head! Why do people get sooooo upset when they hear the truth?? All people should try their best to improve their education rather than always placing the blame for their failures on someone else rather than themselves.

It is because he cares so much for the African-American community that he made that speech. He is trying to stop the acceptance of a culture filled with slang, violence and poor education. He sees a rapidly developing problem and is calling people to start a different movement - one of education, self-respect and self-improvement. Last I knew, these were all positive things to promote in a community.

I believe 100% in what Bill Cosby had to say. He was honest & got his point across. Anyone who has a problem w/what was said is probably one of those parents to which he was referring. This is an across the board issue. I've seen many white parents who don't parent their children & it's those children who are our future. Parents of all races do your job!

I couldn't agree more with what Bill Cosby had to say. As a nation we can only reach out our hand to help so far. There comes a time when the people you are trying to help must make the commitment and effort to reach out and accept the help.

Mr. Crosby is 100% correct. While working in the medical field I was staggered at the sacrifices the black professionals around me had made, and equally staggered by the sense of entitlement that some of the blacks on welfare had. Also; would King's "I Have a Dream" speech have been as powerful if he had said, "I Has a Dream?" Refusing to learn conventional English just feeds the bigots' claim that, "They're too stupid to learn."

I agree with the theme of Bill Cosby's remarks. However, poor parenting isn't exclusively a problem in the African American community. Nor is it necessarily based on income either (although it's easier to raise kids if the parent(s) don't have to work multiple jobs to support the family). But, I totally agree that many youngsters don't seem to have a clue as to the skills needed to get ahead in society. One only have to visit any mall in the US to see many/most kids dress in their best "thug" or "skank" wear, treat each other like savages, or speak as if English is at best a second language. Certainly it's not 100% of all kids out there. But, I have to shake my head when I see the "parents" walking with their kids and apparently not caring as to how their kids present themselves. But, what do we expect? Schools can't/won't properly discipline the kids for rude behavior or for inappropriate dress because of the "anything goes" atmosphere fostered by decades of liberalism run amuck.

Look, here is the realization of the whole issue: Blacks that are poor and people in general that are poor are looking at an up hill battle. The fact is that you can either find an excuse for the reasons “why” and be in the same place you where when you started or forget about whatever walls you have to hurdle and do what ever it takes to get there. All Mr. Cosby is trying to do is give the community a wake up call. I really hope it works.
