Do lane restrictions make sense?
Transportation planners say their goal is to reduce by half the volume of cars and trucks on I-93 and to prevent local roads from being overwhelmed by traffic exiting I-93. Yet, the restrictions, which are the most controversial of the security measures, could set off more anxiety and confusion among residents who are fearful that traffic will be overwhelming. What do you think?

Yes. One poll I read said that 77% were staying out of the City during the convention. Those of us that come in may have a hard time finding somewhere to have lunch (as many of the eateries are not going to bother opening) but we'll have an easy commute (from the south).

the only thing that will work would have been to shift this fat cat facade to the convention center that millions of our tax dollars paid for. Isn't that what this was for? Mayor Menino is a complete moron for fighting this and was just in it for a possible appointment if Kerry wins, which he won't by the way. The whole thing is a joke. How can the DNC make our city money if we can't get to it?????

I honestly think this will go down as one of the biggest logistical nightmares of all time. Every step taken so far defies all logic. If this much disruption is caused by a silly convention, maybe that should've been a clue to hold it someplace else. What an embarassment.

Just Like everyhting else regarding policiticians and this commonwealth, we will end up losing so much money on top of the the unfathomable hassles that the road closures will cost us. This is just another GLARING EXAMPLE OF TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION

What's NYC doing? Closing a single block of 1 street directly in front of Madison Sq Garden and that's all? Sounds like a good plan to me. Let's try it.

i think its ridiculous. i think they should just give everyone the week off. this is so stupid ...

What I heard in this morning's news was that the new lane restrictions were to "encourage people to use Route 128 instead of Route 93." Well, thank you so very much! Those of us who slug our way up and down Route 128 every day already think the traffic is less than desireable. One little accident, or one simple break-down can cause Route 128 to be an absolute nightmare -- as things are on a normal day. Now officials are ENCOURAGING people to spill onto 128??? What are commuters supposed to do with 128's gridlock traffic that week? Many of us do not work at companies that offer tele-commuting, many of us cannot simply take vacation that week, many of us will HAVE NO CHOICE but to continue our normal commute on 128. The 8 lanes of gridlock on 128 will be every commuter's worst nightmare. Thanks for caring, DNC!

Due to the nature of my work, I've lived in 7 states and three different countries. Based on what I've seen from Boston drivers, nothing will help the situation. They will continue to drive impervious to signs, warnings, detours, and rules in general.
Mark
I work in Woburn during the day so I travel out of Boston on I-93 and then have a part-time job at night at a store in Boston, which means I have to get into the city at night. This is going to make it impossible for me to #1 get home and #2 get to my second job. I don't have vacation time to take. If they are going to close the third lane they shouldn't shut down as much of I-93 as they are.

THIS WHOLE IDEA IS CRAZY. THANK YOU MR. MENNINO. WHY DID WE HAVE TO DO THIS IN BOSTON? ISN'T THERE ENOUGH GRIEF AND KILLINGS GOING ON IN HIS CITY? THIS WILL JUST ADD TO THE CONFUSION, KILLINGS AND GOD KNOWS WHAT ELSE. HE MADE EVERYONE SITTING DUCKS. IN THESE SUCH DANGEROUS TIMES, HE HAS PUT THE WHOLE CITY IN DANGER.
