T riders to face searches during convention
Subway and commuter rail riders will face more random searches as part of Democratic National Convention security measures, and will be discouraged from bringing backpacks and briefcases on board public trains. Is this necessary? Will you comply?

I have read the responses from other people and I'm sick!! Does anyone remember the atrocity of September 11th??? I would rather be searched than not have anything done at all! And if anything happened, believe me all of these people would be the very first ones to make accusations and point fingers. I hope this gets posted, because people REALLY need to wake up!!

So if you bring your lunch to work, they are now recommending that you buy your lunch if you take the train. It is just another cheap ploy for the Democracts to say that they are pumping up business in Boston.

I will not carry any bags or luggage and furthermore, I will be completely naked so as to assure my fellow passengers and citizens that I am not transporting anything of a terrorist nature.
Hoss, Boston
The terrorists have won. This is not America.

Won't be in town but I take the T everyday and there isn't one person who does not carry a bag of some sort with them. Expect major delays for those of you who don't have the opportunity to leave the area and have to endure the week from hell that our infamous mayor created for the Boston Metropolitan area. Personally I think both conventions are the biggest waste of money and resources. What's really got me annoyed is the poor cab drivers and the beating they are taking on the outrageous discounted cab fares. I thought one of the reasons Mumbles pushed for this convention was to pump $$ into our local economy? Why should these conventioneers not pay the going rate and the average tourist has to shell out the big bucks? As usual, politicians only looking out for themselves.

I am taking vacation that week & have no intention of getting anywhere NEAR Boston!

People need to get over themselves: I lived in Israel, and checking bags is a fact of life there- even when you go to the grocery store. If you don't have anything to hide, then what's the problem? Wouldn't you rather be safe? We are living in a different world than we have known, and we all have to make adjustments. Self righteous indignation at having your bag checked is ridiculous.

A reminder to "sf, Melrose" who says this foolishness will cause him/her to vote Republican in November: It is not the DNC that is instituting these draconian measures. It is the Secret Service which is run by the Bush administration. Ask yourself how much of this is going on in New York for the Republican Convention.
John, Watertown
Someone mentioned this earlier... Where is all the hooplah around the RNC in New York? For those who do not know, it is the Secret Service (employed by the administration) who are demanding the security measures, not the delegates or candidates. For those who say they are ready to vote Bush in November... Perhaps that was his goal all along... Have his Secret Service make such demands on Boston that we turn our backs on our own senator... We all need to question why the Secret Service is not demanding New York be shut down in the same way that Boston has been told... And keep in mind who is pulling the strings when we go to the polls in November.

I think it's all much ado about nothing. It's a week people, calm down. To those that declare we should "vote republican," yes, that's a great idea. How would feel if the RNC was searching your bags? "Vote democrat!" I doubt it. This is a large convention in a big city, what were you expecting? A few security guards and a fence?
