Post a thought or remembrance for Ronald Reagan

Honestly, I don't know much about Reagan or his presidency (i'm 25). Only recently have I truly invested any attention to world affairs, politics, and the state of our country. I've read literally every response on this message board thus far (10 pages worth) and am disturbed by the enormous gap between the left and right. Ronald Reagan may or may not have been a great president...but it's truly bothersome that our country (and the world) is so divided at this time. Look, i'm a liberal and i don't try to hide it. But i think our country is approaching dangerous territory here when citizens instinctively shoot the "other" party down just for having whatever respective label they wear. Let's face it. There is no middle ground right now. You either hate Bush or you love him. You either appreciate arts, or you want to devote your life to making money. You either hate gays, or you don't. It's great that America allows for freedom of speech and for that, I love the country (see, i could take a shot at conservatives here...but that really contradicts the point i'm trying to make). Basically, I think as citizens of this great nation, we need to just chill and hear each other out. It's gotten to the point where liberals won't even look at a conservative and vice versa. And this chasm is growing. We have to work together. We need to bridge this gap, not expand it. I have certain morals and values and coincidentally, they are mostly "left-leaning". But even as a liberal, I am trying my darndest to listen to what conservatives have to say. I am not religious, i don't read the bible, i am not a Jesus lover. But I still value what Christians (and others) have to say and I want to understand where they're coming from. People, we need to take the blinders off. This sounds really idealistic, yes. But honestly, if we can all park our egos (myself included) and reach out, it is in the best interest of our country. And let's face it, we all love America (even us wacky liberals) and obviously Ronnie loved America too....so if we really want to remember this man and what he stood for, we should value his role as a communicator...because communication between the two sides is our weakest point right now. It can be done...as Rocky said in Rocky IV: "if you can change...then i can change...we can ALL change". Thanks for reading...

Thank you for being a true Patriot and a Great President. It was an honor having you represent our country............

I am so very pleased to hear the liberals here who don't have the decency to pass up an opportunity to bash the man upon his death. You're showing yourselves for the classless whiners that you truly are. But, at least you're to be commended for saying what you believe. Much better that than the frauds like Teddy K and Kerry who offer backhanded compliments and not daring to say what they truly feel. Remember kiddies, President Reagan was elected by 49 out of 50 states when he ran for reelection. 49 out of 50. We certainly won't see that again anytime soon and will NEVER see such results for a liberal candidate. Reagan, thank God, fundamentally changed America, saving it from the liberalism that was running rampent here at home and the communism that was threatening the world at the time. God bless, Mr. President and I hope we here "in America" win one more this November for the Gipper.

Ronald Reagan is the President who truly got the Conservative Religous Right a foot hold in our country. These same people are the ones trying to stop Stem-Cell Research, who are trying to control what you and i see and hear, and do all they can to see the wealthiest of our country keep getting the breaks while the poorest keep getting passed by. His legacy is nothing to honor. He was our president and he deserves respect because of that, but all this talk of the joking good natured down to earth guy is getting sickening. If we want to be honest and look at mans legacy you have to look at it all good and bad. of which in Ronald Reagans case there were plenty of both.
