Is your parish on the list of churches that may close? If so, why do you think it should or shouldn't be closed?

isnt the vatican a nice state unto itself - if they sold one or two of their pieces of art or the gold off the walls they could of kept every church and parish running for years to come. I thought Jesus wasnt into wealth, then why is rome swimmimg in $$?

Read the vitriol of the sons and daughters of the Catholic Church and you will see that the door of love and faith was closed on them by these so-called "fathers" a long, long time ago. The closure of these buildings does nothing more than remove the eyesore of homes that abused and rejected their own children.

K, North of Boston

This is a sad day for Catholics in the Boston area, but there are hard cold facts to remember: 1 - the sale of the land in Brighton is paying for the Church abuse scandal - money from these sales will not go towards that. 2 - with fewer people going to church, it makes no sense to keep churches open when they can't pay their expenses. No, the church isn't in the business of 'making money', but even non-profit organizations need money to stay in business. 3 - some people are being asked to move to another church, not change their religion. It doesn't make a difference 'where' one attends catholic mass - this is simply asking parishoners to dirve to a different church every Sunday. 4 - with fewer parishes, we will have fuller churches and a more vibrant Sunday mass. 5 - if people want to use these closings as an excuse not to attend mass or to leave the church, fine, but it's just an excuse. Those who want to continue celebrating mass every week will be embraced by their new parish.

In the midst of what is a sad day for so many people, I'm disappointed at all of the hateful comments by those posting here. If there is any argument for the need for religion in one's life - and with it faith, hope, charity, compassion, and love, it's this. I wonder where humanity has gone.

Close 'em down! If the church hadn't been so high and mighty and decided that they know what's best for everyone, they wouldn't be in this mess. When their priests were molesting children and spewing hatred for homosexuals, they pretty much sealed their fate. I have NO sympathy for those self-righteous sociopaths, and this is their just desserts!

Sean, Boston

Close 'em down! Molestation stations should not exist. We need a physical example of the Churches transgressions.

Peter, Quincy

I won't be happy until the close the very last one!

Pat, Dracut

I amazed at the hateful gloating in many of the responses posted here. This is a sad day for many good people and too many of you bitter anti-Catholics are taking this as a chance to rub some additional salt in the wounds. Crawl back into your respective holes.

I think it's great. The less Christian control in this country only balances out the other religions that exist in this nation that is supposed to treat all religions the same. I say close them all down, these houses of "worship" that turn their heads to child abuse and pedophilia, some of the lowest crimes there are in existence. GOOD RIDDANCE

They all should be closed
