Talk about a sign of the times.
The alleged racist ramblings attributed to the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers franchise apparently brought the creativity out of some fans of the Golden State Warriors, the team facing the Clippers in the NBA playoffs.
Sports icon Magic Johnson in particular was singled out in the comments that were caught on tape as being an example of the black people Donald Sterling does not want his girlfriend to bring to Clippers games.
And with the NBA investigating the situation and working to determine a proper punishment for Sterling, Magic Johnson apparently has his own solution to this mess: Buy the Clippers himself.
According to a report, Magic thinks he may have the perfect exit strategy for Sterling’s removal from the NBA.
Yahoo Sports reported:
Magic Johnson and his billionaire backers, the Guggenheim Partners, want a chance to purchase the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told Yahoo Sports. "Magic's absolutely interested," one source closely connected to Johnson's business interests told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night.
When the news broke of the alleged comments, Magic made no attempts to hide his feelings on the matter.
If Sunday’s silent protest by the Clippers team before tipping off against the Warriors is any indication, they would most likely welcome the new ownership.
It’s anybody’s guess what happens next, but the widespread backlash against Sterling could be a glimpse into the future.
