Brayden Denton loved superheroes. His favorite, since he was 3, was Spider-man.
So it was only fitting that Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Superman, Batman, and Spider-man served as pallbearers at the 5-year-old’s funeral after the Newton County, Ind., boy died after a year-long battle with brain cancer.
“I felt like I was honoring him in a way that if he was looking down on us he would be happy,” Brayden’s mother, Staci Denton, told ABC News.
Brayden had seen Spider-man on Broadway and even met the superhero in Chicago.
His mother described her son’s final year: “He stopped completely walking. ... Then we got through that hurdle. Then he started not being able to eat or drink.”
At every treatment, Staci said, her son “always had some superhero with him.” On May 8 he stopped breathing at Riley Hospital for Children.
Cory Denton, Brayden’s uncle, dressed as Thor for the funeral.
“It was hard, but I did it for him,” Cory told WFLI. “We went to the Superman movie with him and he was dressed up as Superman. I watched all the Ironman [movies] with him. He’s always here with me, and I’ll always watch [superhero movies] with him because he is always with me.”Follow Robert Burgess on Twitter @bobb2001 Email firstname.lastname@example.org
