What should have been a quick drive home from a neighborhood pool turned into a much longer ordeal after a mother of four was arrested for allegedly driving drunk while her children and two others rode on top of her car.
The reason? Mom didn’t want the wet kids to damage the car’s upholstery.
Kisha Young, 39, of Crowley, Texas, failed a sobriety test after police arrived on the scene and was charged with ‘intoxication assault with a vehicle.’
The pool is located less than a half-mile from Young’s home, but the route includes several sharp turns, one of which flung the children, ages 8-14, off the roof and trunk of the Chevy Malibu Young was driving, reported a local NBC affiliate.
Witnesses reported that the car did not come to an immediate halt after the kids fell onto the road, an indication that Young may not have even noticed at first what happened.
Four of the children were injured, and one, a 12-year-old girl, had to be transported in the air and hospitalized with a serious head injury, according to NBC DFW, who spoke with a witness.
“But from what I saw I never saw her move. They had to do everything to get her on the stretcher and everything like that so it was really, really scary,” said Holly Powell who stepped outside her home and saw the 12-year-old girl lying unconscious in the street.
The other children have been released from the hospital, but the 12-year-old was still being treated as of Thursday night.
Young, who police said called 911, is reportedly being held on $110,000 bail and was charged with two other related felonies, reported The Huffington Post.
