#TwitterFail doesn’t even begin to describe it.
A police spokesperson said that Denver Broncos cornerback and former New England Patriots player Aqib Talib was arrested for public intoxication early Sunday morning after throwing bottles in a Dallas nightclub.
Small problem: Aqib Talib was not arrested for public intoxication early Sunday morning after throwing bottles in a Dallas nightclub.
Dallas Police Maj. Max Geron tweeted a correction about two hours after the department’s initial bulletin to clarify that authorities had, in fact, arrested Talib’s brother Yaqub:
Asked by reporters about the circumstances of the mix-up, Geron said an email he received about the arrest incorrectly identified the man as an NFL player.
As of 12:30 p.m. Sunday, a number of tweets from Dallas Police Major Max Geron misidentifying Talib remained published on his timeline, nearly an hour after a correction was posted:
Talib signed a six-year, $57 million contract with the Broncos on March 12.
