The Ku Klux Klan hates a lot of things, but candy isn’t one of them.
A branch of the white supremacist organization in Oconee County, South Carolina, has been leaving bags of Smarties, mints, and promotional fliers on residents’ driveways in an effort to recruit more members.
Oconee County resident Bo Morris told WHNS-TV that the KKK presence was unwelcome in their neighborhood. “We have all different ethnicities in this neighborhood,” he said, “and we really don’t want that kind of stuff here.”
The KKK fliers read “Save Our Land, Join the Klan,” and include a Klan hotline number, North Carolina mailing address, and the web address for the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
Robert Jones, the “imperial klaliff of the Loyal White Knights,” told WHNS-TV that the handouts are part of a Klan recruitment initiative going on across the country. So far, no other KKK promotions using candy or other treats have been reported.
