A video uploaded to YouTube appeared to show a man laying a trail of food in order to lure a squirrel to the edge of a cliff before kicking the animal off the edge.

Arizona local news site azcentral.com reported that park officials are investigating the video after rangers determined that the incident did, in fact, take place at the Grand Canyon. The park has asked YouTube to provide any additional information, but a spokesperson said that identifying the suspect would be “problematic.”

The Daily Mail reported that YouTube user “Jonthan hildebrand” uploaded the original video and, in the description, claimed he was only a witness to the incident and “did not realize what was happening until it was too late.” According to the report, he added that all he knew about the men in the video is “that they were French.”

Based on the YouTube page associated with the “Jonthan hildebrand” account, the original video has since been removed. And while the footage may be alarming to some viewers, other users on YouTube have posted it and the Daily Mail report captured it at the bottom of their story.

According to azcentral.com, park officials said it was unclear whether the man in the video would face animal cruelty or other charges if he was apprehended.
