Clinton heads home after heart surgery

NEW YORK -- Bill Clinton was released from the hospital and headed home yesterday, four days after undergoing heart bypass surgery, a source familiar with the situation said. The 58-year-old former president was headed to his home in Chappaqua, a New York suburb, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Clinton went to the hospital late last week after complaining of prolonged chest pain and shortness of breath. Doctors said Monday he'd had those symptoms for several months, but had attributed them to lapses in his exercise routine and acid reflux. (AP)

WASHINGTON, D.C.

A federal prosecutor is investigating whether two reporters for The New York Times were leaked information about a terrorism financing investigation that may have tipped off the targets of the probe. US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald of Chicago last week notified the newspaper that he intended to subpoena telephone records of reporters Philip Shenon and Judith Miller. An attorney for The Times, Floyd Abrams, said he was negotiating with Fitzgerald in hopes of preventing the records from being subpoenaed. He said neither The Times nor its reporters have received subpoenas. (AP)

RALEIGH -- The judge who presided over the military pretrial hearing for Private First Class Lynndie England has made her recommendation on whether the Army reservist should be court-martialed for abusing Iraqi prisoners. But Colonel Denise Arn's report, submitted Monday, will not be made public because it is part of the official investigation, said Colonel Billy Buckner, spokesman for the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg. Buckner said yesterday that the decision on a court-martial ultimately will be made by the corps' commander, Lieutenant General John Vines. (AP)

Boy in crash dies after no 911 call

GREELEY -- A 16-year-old boy died of injuries from a sport utility vehicle rollover after his companions didn't call for emergency help, instead phoning a friend to come get them, authorities said. Aaron Bonilla was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle nearly an hour after the wreck Thursday, authorities said. He died after being rushed into surgery for a lacerated liver. The 17-year-old driver of the SUV, whose name was not released, was arrested on numerous charges, said Sergeant Dennis Schenkenberger of the Colorado State Patrol. (AP)
