Transfer of evacuees to other states begins
Aim is to ease Texas burden
WASHINGTON -- Federal emergency workers began transferring tens of thousands homeless victims of Hurricane Katrina to shelters and military bases around the country yesterday, with 2,500 slated to arrive in Massachusetts at Otis Air National Guard Base by midweek, helping to alleviate the housing crisis the storm has caused along the Gulf Coast.
