Makers issue warning on birth-control patch

SANTA CRUZ -- The makers of a popular birth-control patch warned millions of women yesterday that the patch exposes them to significantly higher doses of hormones, and that it may put them at greater risk for blood clots and other serious side effects than previously disclosed. The warning came from Ortho McNeil, makers of Ortho Evra. (AP)

Rove praises Miers, and chides his critics
Karl Rove, under investigation in the CIA leak case, stepped into the limelight last night, praising Harriet E. Miers, the Supreme Court nominee who withdrew, to a group of conservative lawyers. In remarks to the Federalist Society, Rove also took aim at four Democratic senators who have criticized the White House. The four are Charles E. Schumer of New York, Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, Richard Durbin of Illinois, and Patrick Leahy of Vermont. (AP)

Robertson warns vote could lead to disaster
Televangelist Pat Robertson told citizens of the Pennsylvania town of Dover that they had rejected God by voting their school board out of office for backing ''intelligent design," and warned them yesterday not to be surprised if disaster struck. ''If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected Him," Robertson said on ''The 700 Club." (Reuters)
