WASHINGTON -- Former Virginia governor Mark R. Warner yesterday stunned Democratic Party leaders by bowing out of the party's 2008 presidential contest, scrambling the presidential field by eliminating a Southern moderate who was emerging as a favored alternative to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.
