December 25, 2007

If you're looking for that last-minute gift for the political junkie who has everything, the presidential campaign websites are offering unique items that intentionally, or not, say something about the candidates.

Hillary Clinton

Piggy bank, $7.50

Comes in pink and blue with the logo "Hillary Cares About Me."

Clinton backed off a proposal for a $5,000 "baby bond" for every American, but offers this far slower alternative to save for college.

Rudy Giuliani

Restaurant apron, $14.95

Comes in navy with red-and-white "Rudy" logo, two pockets, and adjustable neck strap.

Given Giuliani's family situation (two former wives, estranged children), it's a little difficult to see him wearing this at a backyard barbecue.

Mike Huckabee

"Chuck for Huck" T-shirt, $21.99

Comes in eight colors in preshrunk 100 percent cotton.

Huckabee trots out his best-known celebrity endorser - movie tough guy Chuck Norris. A humorous ad featuring the two helped generate some buzz early in Iowa.

Dennis Kucinich

Palm Beach County voting machine, $219.95

Comes with hanging chads, a replica butterfly ballot, and a signed letter titled "The Stolen Presidential Election of 2000." These days, Kucinich is trying to impeach the beneficiaries of the Florida voting fiasco - President Bush and Vice President Cheney - for what he describes as running roughshod over the Constitution.

Barack Obama

"Hope" bracelet, $4

Comes in black and white with "HOPE" on one side and "Obama '08" on the other.

The candidate of optimism puts his own take on the inspirational silicone bracelet first popularized by Lance Armstrong's Livestrong effort.

Mitt Romney

Money clip, $20

Comes in nickel/silver with the official campaign logo.

Romney is financing much of his own campaign - $17 million and counting as of Sept. 30 - so apparently has plenty of cash.

Fred Thompson

Golf balls, $11.95

Comes in a sleeve of three Titleist DT SoLo balls, each with campaign logo.

Though he is picking up the pace some in Iowa, Thompson has been accused of campaigning as if he were playing a leisurely 18 holes.
