NASHUA, N.H.—Republican John McCain says he won the Republican presidential primary today -- after having no money and low poll numbers -- by telling the truth.

The Arizona senator was all but written off last summer.

He said he knew he could stay alive by coming to New Hampshire, where he said voters don't let pundits make decisions for them. He said he spoke the truth to New Hampshire voters and they listened.

Supporters shouted "Mac is back," the slogan McCain has been using in the final days of the campaign.

McCain spoke at length about winning the war on terrorism, saying America will make history, not be a victim of it.
