Mich. gov. has emergency surgery; overseas trip postponed
LANSING, Mich.—Gov. Jennifer Granholm has undergone emergency surgery to clear a bowel obstruction, postponing an investment trip to Israel and Kuwait, her office said Wednesday.
Granholm, 49, underwent successful surgery late Tuesday for an obstruction believed to be a complication from injuries she suffered in a 1993 auto accident. She could remain in the Sparrow Health System hospital for up to a week.
Doctors said Granholm's prognosis was good, and she was resting comfortably.
Granholm, in her second term, wasn't feeling well Sunday, said spokeswoman Liz Boyd. She reported having flu-like symptoms Monday, but kept her schedule.
The governor's trip overseas had been planned for Wednesday and expected to last through May 8. Granholm was hoping to draw high tech, alternative energy and homeland security businesses to Michigan.
The trip will be rescheduled for a later date.![]()
