Cancer survivor and seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong called on Congress to renew the nation's war on cancer. America's aging population and younger people who are less physically active than they should be make it more urgent than ever to find better ways to combat cancer, he said. Armstrong appeared before a Senate panel with Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of former senator John Edwards, the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee. She was diagnosed with cancer following the 2004 election. Her cancer returned in early 2007. (AP)Letter carriers' food drive is tomorrow
WASHINGTON - The annual charity food collection by the nation's letter carriers will be held tomorrow. The 16th annual drive by the postal union is aiming to top last year's collection of 70.7 million pounds of food. The food is passed along to local food banks and pantries. The carriers are asking donors to place items such as canned meat and fish, soup, cereals, pasta, and rice near their mailboxes. (AP)Pennsylvania
7 more officers pulled over beating
PHILADELPHIA - Seven more police officers were taken off street duty yesterday as investigators look into the videotaped police beating of three shooting suspects. Thirteen of the estimated 15 officers on hand during the Monday incident have been taken off the streets as investigators look at TV news footage, police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said.
