Mistrial declared in '06 shootings
Washington
SEATTLE - A mistrial has been declared for the man accused of the shootings at a Seattle Jewish center in 2006 that left a woman dead and five others wounded. Jurors had indicated in questions posed to the judge that they were hopelessly deadlocked over whether Naveed Haq was not guilty by reason of insanity as he asserts. The judge declared a mistrial on the eighth day of deliberations. Prosecutors say they will retry Haq on murder and attempted murder charges. (AP)Texas

West Point's lyrics go gender-neutral
WEST POINT - The US Military Academy will now honor its daughters as well as its sons in two of its beloved songs. Gender-neutral lyrics were incorporated into West Point's "Alma Mater" and "The Corps" - replacing lines like "The men of the Corps" with "The ranks of the Corps." West Point officials made the change after attending funerals for female graduates killed in combat and listening to the line "Guide us, thy sons" being sung.
