Grand jury adds charges in slaying of UNC student
CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—A grand jury has added charges against two men accused of killing the student body president at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall says both 22-year-old Demario James Atwater and 17-year-old Laurence Alvin Lovette Jr. now face charges of armed robbery, first-degree kidnapping, felonious larceny and felonious possession of stolen goods.
The indictments were handed down Monday. The two are already charged with first-degree murder in the March 5 shooting death of Eve Carson of Athens, Ga.
Atwater is also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of weapon of mass destruction: a shotgun.![]()
