Michigan governor's medical records breached
LANSING, Mich.—The state of Michigan says it is investigating a hospital where employees improperly looked at Gov. Jennifer Granholm's medical records.
The state Department of Community Health said Thursday that it will review the actions of Sparrow Hospital to make sure the situation was handled properly.
Hospital officials won't say how many employees were disciplined or fired for violating its policy.
The 49-year-old Democratic governor underwent emergency surgery at the Lansing hospital in April to remove an intestinal obstruction.
Granholm spokeswoman Liz Boyd says that the privacy violation was a "complete surprise" and that such issues are "very serious."![]()
