Smoked salmon gets recalled

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - A seafood company is recalling 4-ounce packages of smoked salmon with pepper that were distributed in seven states, including Massachusetts and Vermont.

The recall of Cracked Pepper Style Smoked Salmon lot number 54933-2 made by Trans-Ocean Products Inc. was announced Friday.

According to a Food and Drug Administration news release, the presence of listeria monocytogenes was found by the company in routine testing of a one package.

No illness from the product has been reported.

The smoked salmon was distributed to three supermarket chains: Brookshire Brothers in Texas and Louisiana; Price Choppers in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Vermont; and Giant Eagle in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Listeriosis can cause severe headaches, fever, and nausea, and it can also pose health risks for infants, the elderly and pregnant women.
