NEWARK, N.J.—The former mayor of Newark, N.J., is due at a federal prison camp Monday.
Sharpe James was to report to Petersburg, Va., to begin serving a 27-month sentence. He was convicted earlier this year on corruption charges.
James had requested being sent to the prison at Fort Dix so he could be closer to his family, but that was denied.
James' co-defendant and former mistress Tamika Riley also is due to report to prison today. She's to serve her 15-month sentence in the women's camp in Alderson, W.Va. That's where Martha Stewart served her term for obstruction of justice.
