WILLIAMS - Authorities say five people died and dozens were injured when a Greyhound bus overturned last night in north-central California. The crash happened near Williams, which is about 60 miles north of Sacramento. California Highway Patrol dispatcher Terry Troth said at least 30 people were injured. He said the bus was headed to Colusa Casino Resort from Sacramento. (AP)

Episcopal leader criticizes secession
Episcopal Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori said yesterday that the Diocese of Pittsburgh probably won't be the last to vote to leave the US branch of the world Anglican Communion. But she told a forum at Washington National Cathedral that she considers Pittsburgh's decision Saturday to join with more conservative Anglicans in South America to be a violation of church law. Backpack blown up by police at mosque
AUSTIN - Police yesterday blew up a suspicious backpack outside a Texas mosque and arrested a man who claimed it contained a bomb. Austin police Lieutenant Cedric Hudson said Azzam Baytie, 46, was charged with criminal trespassing and making a terrorist threat against the North Austin Muslim Community Center. The backpack contained electronic parts. (AP)

Schumer urges help for small businesses
NEW YORK - Senator Charles Schumer is calling for federal help for small businesses that have been hit hard by the ongoing credit crisis in the markets. The New York Democrat said business are struggling to pay for inventory, payrolls, and other obligations. He is asking the Bush administration to set up a special direct loan program for small businesses. (AP)

British flight makes emergency landing
CHICAGO - A British Airways flight from London to Houston made an emergency landing at O'Hare International Airport yesterday after the pilot reported a problem. The airline said the crew of Flight 195 detected an "electrical burning smell" and diverted the plane. The cause was not determined. (AP)

NEVADA
Teens arrested after dress code violation
FALLON - Four students were arrested after one of them refused to adhere to a school dress code. Churchill County High School officials said a 17-year-old refused to turn over his bandana Friday and was charged with resisting arrest and assaulting an officer. Three others are accused of interfering with police. (AP)
