CONWAY, Ark. - Three men were being detained yesterday in connection with a weekend shooting at the University of Central Arkansas that left two students dead. The authorities said they were searching for one other man.

The shooting occurred just after 9 p.m. Sunday when a group of men drove onto the campus and opened fire near the Arkansas Hall dormitory. The bullets sent students scurrying for safety and prompted an alert that locked down the campus.

When the shooting stopped, one man lay dead on a sidewalk, and two others who were wounded were rushed to a hospital, where one of them died. University officials identified the dead as Ryan Henderson, 18, a freshman from Little Rock, and Chavares Block, 19, a sophomore from Dermott. The third victim, Martrevis Norman, 19, of Blytheville, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. He was not a student.

Numerous witnesses provided accounts that led police to zero in on four suspects. Prosecutors were exploring charges, but none had been filed as of last night.
