JERSEY CITY, N.J. - A man who appeared to be drunk fell onto train tracks at a New Jersey subway station just before a train ran over him - and he walked away unharmed, officials said.
Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said a 32-year-old man rolled onto the center of the tracks Saturday night at the PATH station in Jersey City.
Coleman said a New York-bound train then rumbled into the station and three-quarters of the train covered the spot where the man had fallen.
The man crawled out from under the train unscathed but was taken to Jersey City Medical Center as a precaution. Officials did not release his name.
Also in New Jersey, commuter trains of the NJ Transit system were held at stations for about an hour yesterday morning because there wasn’t enough electricity to move them.
The delays were linked to Amtrak power problems that stranded thousands of train passengers from New York to Washington. Amtrak spokeswoman Karina Romero said a substation in north Philadelphia lost power about 7:40 a.m. It is not known what caused that.
There were delays of up to one hour on NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, and Midtown Direct service once the power was restored.![]()
