LA GRANDE, Ore. - Woolly mammoth and other ice-age bones have been found on a farm in Oregon’s Grande Ronde Valley.
Professor Jay Van Tassell of Eastern Oregon University’s geology department estimated the tusks found Jan. 20 could be 15,000 years old. No human bones or artifacts have been discovered.
The tusks and other bones have been taken to the university to be studied. Van Tassell says it is the first such discovery in the valley in more than 30 years.
The property’s owner has donated the bones to Eastern Oregon and has asked that the location of the find not be made public.![]()
