CAMP PENDLETON, Calif.—A Marine squad leader who was convicted of leading troops to kill an Iraqi civilian will get a temporary release from prison to witness the birth of his second child.

The North County Times reports ( http://bit.ly/nIeBwF) that Sgt. Larry Hutchins will be allowed to be with his wife Reyna as she gives birth through induced labor Monday.

Hutchins is currently serving an 11-year sentence at the prison facility at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station.

In 2006, Hutchins led an eight-man squad that kidnapped an Iraqi man from his home, marched him into a ditch and killed him.

Hutchins' wife became pregnant after he was freed by an appellate decision, but returned to prison several months later when it was overturned.

Hutchins has lost numerous appeals.
