CLEVELAND—The Ohio Supreme Court has declined to hear the appeal of a Cleveland area doctor convicted of killing his wife with cyanide.

Without comment, the state's highest court on Wednesday turned down a review of Yazeed Essa's (EE'-suhz) case.

Defense lawyer Stephen Miles had contended that the trial judge made errors that turned jurors against Essa.

The physician was convicted last year of killing his wife by lacing her calcium supplement with cyanide in 2005 so he could be with his mistress.

WKYC-TV reports ( http://on.wkyc.com/sd0nm1) the Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County prosecutor said he doubted the state Supreme Court would take the appeal.

Essa is now serving a life prison term at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown.

A message for comment was left Thursday for attorney Stephen Miles.
