WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.—A New York City man accused of helping his sister arrange the killing of her husband says he wants to get married.
Cristobal Veliz was in court Friday for arraignment on new charges against him, including one that carries a mandatory life sentence. He pleaded not guilty.
He also asked the judge to sign an order allowing him to travel from jail to the local town hall to get a marriage license.
The judge identified to bride-to-be as Laura Law. Veliz's lawyer said the couple had lived together in Brooklyn before Veliz was arrested.
The 57-year-old Veliz and his sister, Narcy Novack, are accused in the 2009 killings of Novack's husband in New York and mother-in-law in Florida.
Narcy Novack pleaded not guilty to the new charges a month ago.
