ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Authorities say a JetBlue flight from New York City to Salt Lake City had to make an emergency landing in upstate New York after the crew reported smoke in the cockpit.

Susan Walsh, director of the Greater Rochester International Airport, says the Airbus with 137 people on board landed safely around 10 p.m. Sunday.

Walsh says that soon after the flight left Kennedy Airport, the plane was diverted to Rochester when the crew reported smelling smoke.

She says the burning odor was caused by a faulty fan on a heater. Walsh says there was no fire and no smoke.

Passengers boarded another JetBlue flight to resume their trips.

Walsh says the original plane's fan was repaired and the aircraft was back in service Monday.
