DEL RIO, Texas—Two men have been sentenced in Del Rio to lengthy federal prison terms for leading a group that smuggled guns and ammunition into Mexico.

The U.S. Attorney's office announced Thursday that Juan Hector Guevara II and Juan J. Rodriguez were sentenced to 30 years and 27 years in prison, respectively after pleading guilty to charges of smuggling goods from the U.S. and being convicted felons in possession of a firearm or ammunition.

Prosecutors said in July 2010, Guevara tried to export more than 20,000 rounds of ammunition through the Eagle Pass port of entry. Rodriguez had conspired to export two assault rifles in July 2010. Four others working in the group have already been sentenced. A final defendant was scheduled to be sentenced later this month.
