BALTIMORE—A lawyer for a man suspected in the presumed death of his traveling companion in Aruba says prosecutors in Maryland are dropping an unrelated indecent exposure charge.

A lawyer for Gary Giordano told The Associated Press that a prosecutor informed him of the decision Friday.

Giordano was arrested in May after Annapolis police say he and a woman were found naked in a parked car. Giordano was charged with indecent exposure and the case was set for trial next week.

Attorney Steven Kupferberg asked for the case to be dismissed, saying no crime had been committed.

State law makes it illegal to be naked willfully or intentionally in public. Kupferberg says that wasn't the case here.

Giordano was held in Aruba for about four months but never charged.
