Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee debated immigration legislation on Capitol Hill Monday before approving the bill, sponsored by Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), that would expand immigrant rights.

The measure will be debated next on the Senate floor, followed by the House, where it could be defeated for a narrow bill enforcing the nation's borders.
