Rove's relationship with newspaper columnist Robert Novak (right) became suspect when Novak's column "outed" CIA operative Valerie Plame in July 2003 in his discussion of whether the White House used false information to justify going to war in Iraq.

Novak said publicly for the first time in 2006 that Rove was a source for his story revealing the identity of Valerie Plame.
