Lieutenant Scott Milley, 23, Sudbury
Milley, 23, graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury High School in 2005, where he was captain of the ice hockey team. He later went to the University of New Hampshire, where he joined ROTC and graduated cum laude in 2009. From the age of 3, his father said, it was his "absolute dream to be an Army man." He became an Army Ranger assigned to Second Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, Fourth Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Polk, La. Milley died after serving only one month in Afghanistan on Nov. 30, 2010, when insurgents attacked his unit on patrol in Logar province with small arms fire. He was the first service member from Sudbury to die in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
