Body of youngest son of Kirk Douglas found
NEW YORK -- Oscar-winning actor Kirk Douglas's youngest son, who battled drug and alcohol problems for years, was found dead yesterday inside an apartment building, police said. Eric Douglas, 46, was discovered after someone flagged down a police car. There were no signs of foul play, police said. An autopsy was planned. Eric Douglas had a short-lived acting career in the 1980s and early '90s, playing supporting roles in movies such as ''Delta Force 3: The Killing Game." (AP)
Ex-school chief held in embezzlement case
MINEOLA -- The former superintendent of one of the country's top school districts was charged yesterday with embezzling more than $1 million for such things as airline flights, cruises, dermatology treatments, furniture, and jewelry. Frank Tassone, 57, was arrested a month after similar charges were filed against Pamela Gluckin, a former assistant superintendent also accused of taking more than $1 million from Long Island's Roslyn School District. Arab Bank is sued over attacks in Israel
NEW YORK -- Relatives of US citizens killed or injured in violence in Israel have filed an $875 million lawsuit accusing Arab Bank of helping move money to families of suicide bombers, attorneys said yesterday. The lawsuit accuses the bank of converting funds raised in Saudi Arabia into US dollars and moving the money to branches in the West Bank and Gaza, where it is withdrawn by families of militants and by the militant group Hamas. The suit was filed on behalf of a half-dozen US families on July 2 in US District Court in Brooklyn. (AP)![]()
