Suspicious package found at White House

WASHINGTON --Two blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House were closed for an hour and a half Thursday while authorities investigated a suspicious package found on the presidential grounds.

It was found near the White House fence around 7:30 a.m., a Secret Service spokesman said.

Two blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue that are normally open only to pedestrians were closed off with yellow police tape, as was Lafayette Park. News camera crews normally stationed on the north side of the White House were moved. The area was reopened after the investigation.
