A glance at state gas taxes

Email|Print| Text size + By The Associated Press
January 15, 2008

A glance at total taxes levied by the states on gasoline on top of the 18.6 cents per gallon federal gas tax. Although most states use this revenue for roads, bridges and public transit, some allow the money to be spent on non-transportation projects. (Gas taxes for Kentucky and North Carolina are levied on wholesale prices.)
