A New York company is voluntarily recalling about 286,000 pounds of fresh and frozen meat and poultry products that may be contaminated with bacteria, US agriculture officials said yesterday. The products produced by Gourmet Boutique LLC of Jamaica, N.Y., were sent to food service and retail establishments nationwide, a US Department of Agriculture statement said. The meat may be contaminated with Listeria monocyotogenes bacteria, which can cause potentially fatal listeriosis, the USDA said. (Reuters)NEW YORK
TV series sued over Rockwell picture
NEW YORK - The owner of Norman Rockwell's "Bottom of the 6th" - showing three umpires looking skyward as first raindrops fall - is suing over the use of the classic illustration in the television series "The Bronx is Burning." Curtis Publishing Co. Inc. has filed a lawsuit in US District Court in Manhattan seeking to stop ESPN Inc. from rebroadcasting the series about the 1977 New York Yankees until it withdraws use of the painting. Violent storms push death toll to 26
SILOAM SPRINGS - Residents of communities across the state yesterday faced the wreckage of homes torn apart by violent weather that has pushed this year's storm death toll to at least 26. Seven Arkansans were killed Friday in thunderstorms that tore up parts of five states, and two dozen or more were injured. Meteorologists said more than 25 tornadoes may have touched down across middle America late Thursday and early Friday. (AP) IDAHO
3 killed in collision of two small planes
McCALL - A small plane struck another craft as it was landing at an airport, killing three people and injuring three, including a 2-year-old pulled from the burning wreckage, officials said yesterday. A Cessna 172 with two people aboard was landing at McCall Municipal Airport on Friday night when it struck another plane of the same type with four people aboard, said Ian Gregor, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman. Police officer slain in bank robbery
