WASHINGTON—Republican Steve Scalise joined the House of Representatives on Wednesday, becoming the second congressman to be sworn in from Louisiana in as many days.

"In this building we've got the ability, the talent, and the people to solve" problems, Scalise said after being sworn in by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. "I look very forward to working with each and every one of you to help tackle those challenges."

Scalise won the 1st District seat that had been formerly held by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who resigned to run for his current office.

Louisiana now has four Republicans and three Democrats in its House caucus. Democrat Don Cazayoux, who won the 6th District seat, was sworn in on Tuesday.

Scalise and Cazayoux both face re-election in the fall.

The 435-member House now has only one vacancy, the Mississippi seat left by Roger Wicker when he resigned to join the Senate.
