WASHINGTON—House Speaker John Boehner says he has invited South Korean President Lee Myung-bak (lee myuhng bahk) to address a joint meeting of Congress on Oct. 13.

The South Korean leader will be in Washington for a state visit Thursday. His visit comes a day after the House and Senate hope to complete a long-delayed free trade agreement with South Korea.

Boehner said South Korea has been a strong ally and partner in "promoting democracy, advancing economic freedom and combatting nuclear proliferation." He called Lee a "steadfast friend" of the American people.
