Democrats hope Republican opposition to legislation meant to narrow the pay gap between men and women will cement perceptions that the GOP doesn’t care about women. Two years ago, an identical measure withered under the threat of a Republican-led filibuster, with the GOP’s three senate moderates - Scott Brown of Massachusetts, and Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine - siding with their party. The Paycheck Fairness Act would require employers to justify pay inequities between men and women who do the same work.
