On July 6, 2003, The New York Times ran an Op-ed article by former US ambassador and Bill Clinton adviser Joseph Wilson (left, at Northeastern University).

In the article, Wilson said he had investigated the Nigeria uranium assertion on behalf of the CIA and found it to be inaccurate. He said he believed Vice President Dick Cheney's office had been told of his findings before the president's State of the Union address.
