Launch Google in your browser today and you’ll see a very cool intricately designed forest meets river theme for the doodle. What’s even more cool is learning the doodle was designed and drawn by 11-year old Audrey Zhang, who won this year’s Doodle 4 Google challenge.
The annual challenge is open to students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Zhang, a fifth-grader, said she thought of the environment theme after learning that not everyone in the world has clean water.
“To make the world a better place, I invented a transformative water purifier. It takes in dirty and polluted water from rivers, lakes, and even oceans, then massively transforms the water into clean, safe and sanitary water, when humans and animals drink this water, they will live a healthier life,’’ Zhang said in an official statement released by Google.
This was Zhang’s third year entering the annual competition, The Washington Post reports.
According to Google, this is the first year the company has worked with the winner to animate the doodle.
Zhang has also won a $30,000 college scholarship from Google, a $50,000 tech grant to her school – Island Trees Middle School in Levittown, New York. Because of the theme of her doodle, Google has also donated $20,000 in her name to help provide clean water and bathrooms to 10 schools in Bangladesh.
