Last night Federal Student Aid, a government student financial aid agency commonly known as FAFSA, tweeted a reference to the Kristen Wiig movie “Bridesmaids’’ depicting the actress saying “Help me, I’m poor.’’ While the movie is a comedy, many people on Twitter thought their use of the meme was anything but laughable.
FAFSA forms are lengthy applications most colleges and universities require for students to receive financial aid. The agency deleted the tweet and apologized a few hours after it was posted, but many had already screenshot it and replied:
Bad social from @FAFSA. Being “poor” is nothing to joke about, especially with the hardships people go through to go to school.— My Name Is My Name (@CoryTownes) June 25, 2014
not really the agency that should be making "poor" jokes https://t.co/cpYP1dYIGB— Bill Baer (@CrashburnAlley) June 25, 2014
The deadline to submit a FAFSA for the 2014-2015 school year is midnight (central time) on June 30.
