Public and semi-public figures being shamed by the media are going online to regain control of their identities, Monica Lewinsky writes today in Vanity Fair. Her new job at VanityFair.com is Exhibit A.

Lewinsky, made infamous for her relationship with President Bill Clinton in the 90s, is now a Vanity Fair contributor “on an ongoing basis,’’ a spokesperson for the company told Business Insider.

In May, Lewinsky wrote about her post-scandal life in an article for the magazine, relating to readers the public shame she withstood over the years. Her latest article on Thursday is the second with Vanity Fair in recent months.

In the new article, Lewinsky argues that the Internet has given an outlet to people being attacked and shamed, and helps them regain their sense of agency over their lives.

She admits she still feels embarrassed by media jokes at her expense, most recently when an episode of Orange Is the New Black turned her last name into a sexual verb. “Lewinsky that shit,’’ one character advises a fellow prisoner, and “get some splooge on your uniform.’’
